Safe Sleep in Summer Heat (What to Dress Your Baby In)
It can be really tricky to figure out what to dress your baby in for sleep when it’s so hot outside in the summer. You want them to feel comfy and cozy, without overheating. I get it! I’m an Arizona girl so the heat has always been part of mine and my babies’ lives. Here are a few ways I’ve made sure to practice safe, yet comfortable sleep for my babies during the summer months.
Keep a fan on at all times. Whether you have a ceiling fan, a floor fan, or both, keep them running as often as you can. This will make sure your baby’s room has constant air flow, making it easier for cool air to circulate.
Turn the AC down a degree or two during nap time, if possible. Trust me when I say that I understand electric bills can be outrageous in the summer. It’s the worst! But at the same time, we have to keep in mind that our babies have a harder time regulating their body temperatures than we do. In order to be mindful of both their safety and comfort during sleep, as well as our bank account, I try to keep the temperature of our home above average during wake time, and below average during nap time.
Use a thinner, breathable sleep sack that is designed for the summer months, like the Melli Baby Summer Sleep Sack in .5 TOG. This sleep sack is lightweight and breathable, all while giving your baby the sleep trigger they need for optimal sleep. In order to keep things extra cool, your baby can sleep in just a diaper or a short-sleeved onesie under the sleep sack. Comment “MELLIBABY” below and I’ll send you the link!
