Beating the 5 AM Wakeup: What to Do When the Sun Comes Up!
Tell me if this sounds familiar: your baby has been sleeping like a champ when suddenly they start waking up at 6:00AM, 5:30, or even 5:00AM wide awake, ready to party! Their naps are on point, bedtime has been a breeze, and yet you cannot kick this early morning wakings for the life of you.
I see this happening most often during the summer months and 99% of the time, it’s because sunlight is somehow creeping into your baby’s room earlier and earlier, telling their brain it’s time to wake up and start the day! The more it happens, the more it becomes a pattern. Once this pattern forms, your baby will slowly start to become overtired, making naps, bedtime and nights a nightmare.
Good news, this is likely a pretty simple fix. You have to blackout your baby’s room completely. I don’t mean throw some thicker curtains up and call it a day. I mean fully blackout the windows, cover the light on the sound machine if yours has one, and if that doesn’t work, you can fold up a towel to place under the door to cover that light coming in as well.
If you aren’t sure how to make this happen, one of my favorite blackout products is about $9 on Amazon, it uses only water, and it’s reusable, so you can take it off and on as often as you’d like! You can find it HERE.
Now, if you feel like your baby’s room is completely blacked out and you’re still having consistently early morning wakings, I have a FREE guide for that. This guide will go over nine reasons your baby might be waking up early and what you can do about it. You can download it HERE.
HAPPY SLEEPING!
